Whenever things in my life get too tough to manage, I turn straight to art.
Do you ever have those days, weeks, months where things are just REALLY not going your way? Where it feels like the universe is conspiring against you and no matter what you do things just aren’t working out?
Yeah, I feel ya.
When I’m slogging through that kind of garbage I turn to painting.
I literally tell myself, “time to get into your painting.”
I turn on a soothing audiobook, settle into my comfy office chair, and just start going through the motions. When I paint, I literally get my face so close to the painting that I feel like I’m inside of it. Like I’m escaping my reality and climbing right into a new one that’s full of vibrance, and best of all, one that I control.
Because you know what?
We don’t have a hell of a lot of control of the world around us. Bad things are going to happen. Change is inevitable. The world keeps turning no matter how much we’d like for it to pause, stop, or even go in reverse.
But making art… that’s different. With a few swishes of a paintbrush I can create my own world, one that feels cozy, safe, and happy. I can escape the pain that real life brings and jump into a self created reality.
It’s pure magic.
Have you made any art lately?
Maybe it’s just what you need to escape for a little while too. Pulling out some paint can be such a great way to tune in to your inner world and start creating the life you want to live.
