Getting any drawings done was a real challenge this week. We’ve been super busy working on projects around the house, which doesn’t leave much time for fun things, but I managed to carve out time every day. Many of these drawings were very rushed as I was trying to finish them before the baby woke up from naps or stealing moments away here and there between chores.
I’m clearly leaning way into the realm of monsters and robots, and have been working mostly in ink. I do adore using just ink, but this choice is mostly time related more than anything. It’s so simple to grab a pen and get to work. There just isn’t time right this minute to get out watercolor sets and wash brushes. I’m enjoying the simplicity of putting pen to paper.
I don’t love all these drawings, but the point is to show up every day and practice. Hopefully in the coming weeks I’ll be able to put a little more time into my work.
6/17: Day 60
This guy was so fun to draw. I went real simple with the shading, playing with line and stippling. I love the weirdo expression on his face.
6/18: Day 61
I started out drawing a monster on this one and it turned more human. I started just drawing his nose and the rest just popped out.
I almost never draw with a pencil first, I just jump right in with the pen, so there’s no erasing or fixing anything. That can be a lot of fun but it can also be really frustrating, as with this drawing, when things go sideways and you just have to roll with it!
6/19: Day 62
This one was just for fun, I was playing around with layering some markers I had lying around. It was actually kind of fun mixing the colors but I’m definitely not in love with this doodle.

Another odd little doodle for today. Playing around with micron pens and line.

This monster seriously creeps me out. I think it’s the hair. She looks like she just crawled out of a lake to come eat me. They can’t all be winners!

Happy little bot. I feel like so many of my robots are so similar. I need to find some inspiration for new shapes and designs.
6/23: Day 66
This is another one that really creeps me out. He looks like a bizarro clown.
All told this week was not great for drawings, but I’m chalking it up to new baby exhaustion and lack of time to really put in the effort. Hopefully both things will turn around soon!
