You know, this painting was so much better in my head. I had all these grand ideas for how this was going to look, and once it was on paper I pretty much hated it. Oh well, you can’t win them all.
Normally I wouldn’t share a piece of art that I’m not proud of, but I’m trying something totally new here, utter transparency. I’m hoping this little place can serve as encouragement for you to step out of your comfort zone and get making some art. If we never see that other people make mistakes, and make total crap art, then we have a very skewed idea of the artistic process.
I want for you all to see and know what this process is really like. How it can sometimes, hell, lots of times, be really frustrating. The important thing is I pick up the paintbrush and try again.
Every famous artist in the world made artwork that ended up in the trash. Lots of it. This is part of the learning process. It’s how we grow and get better. You can’t quit when the going gets tough, you have to push yourself over that edge to greatness.
